To move or not to move
When I first started this blog I had just moved into my apartment. Well I've finally unpacked everything. I still haven't hung up my pictures yet, but at least they are all out of storage and ready to go up. However, I think I may actually move again. My lease ran out on the 3rd of this month. It switched over to a month to month plan which I like. Unfortunately, it also went up another hundred dollars. Since I was already spending more on a one bedroom apartment than my parents do on a mortgage I think it may be a little to much. It's a nice place. 900 square feet, w/d, dishwasher, large balcony (that I've never been on), ceiling fans, new carpet, enormous bathroom and bedroom. I'd attach the floor plan, but from my last post you can see I can't figure out how to do it.
This is the first time and place where I have lived alone. Like everything it has its pluses and minuses. There are a few things I really enjoy though. It's nice to not have to deal with other peoples crap. You can sleep without worrying about other people making to much noise. You can make noise without worrying about other people sleeping. You don't have to clean up after other people or worry about them using and abusing your possession's. So now that I've started to get used to and enjoy the convenience of living alone I find myself wondering whether I should get a roommate. If I get a roommate I could realistically cut my housing expenses in half. Not only would my rent drop to half of what I'm spending but I would also have someone to split the utilities with. That's a lot of money that I could be saving and usually for other things. Financially it makes perfect sense. However, I'm a little bit nervous as I've become somewhat comfortable living by myself.
Two things prompted my thinking of getting a roommate. One was the expiration of my lease, and the other was discovering that Craigslist had expanded to OC. If you have never used Craigslist I highly suggest trying it. It's a community bulletin board where people offer jobs, classes, rooms, sell things, even find dates. I used it all the time when I lived in San Fran, and it's an awesome resource. Ok back to the roommate issue. Not only could I save a tremendous amount of money, but I could move to a new area (in OC), meet new people, and not get locked into a year long lease. The downside is that I would have to get a large storage unit to store all the crap I have managed to accumulate in the past year. I think renting a room from someone could be an exciting experience. Although, it could also turn into a living nightmare. But I think it's worth a try. We will see what happens....
