Traffic School
Last Saturday I was lucky enough to spend my whole day in Traffic School. 7am to 4:30pm. Nothing like having to wake up extra early on Saturday after a long week of work. I had never been to traffic school before. In fact it was my first moving violation since I was in high school. Ten years. uh, has it really been ten years? Well, ten years with no ticket is pretty impressive. Especially since I tend to drive 80-100 mph most of the time I'm on the road.
So I didn't really know what to expect for the class. Besides the boredom that is. And yes there was a lot of boredom. I never even really understand what the point of traffic school was. Was it punishment or "rehabilitation". I think probably a little bit of both. The "teacher" tried to make it enjoyable. However, it was a stretch. I do remember one interesting fact. The West German Highway patrol used to use LIVE crash test dummies. Yes, you heard me right. We watched film of three of the crashes. It was pretty entertaining. The way they obtained these "dummies" was also pretty interesting. They would offer to commute prisoners sentences in exchange to act as the "dummies". I kid you not. Obviously, they do not do this anymore.
There was another thing that I was unfortunately reminded of during the nine hours I was there. Why is there always that old person in your class that must talk the ENTIRE time. It's usually a middle aged lower income slightly trashy white person (man or woman). They somehow think it's appropriate to ask fifty questions, and make just as many comments. Do they really think anyone gives a flying F*ck about their opinion? I certainly don't. Maybe they have one or two things worth saying. But, they just keep on blah, blah, blah, blah. If you have so much damn stuff to say why don't you become a teacher. That way you can get paid for your blathering and save me some time. It seems no matter where I take a class this person is always in it. Are you this person? If so please do not EVER take a class again. Additionally, please get a life. If you need friends join a club, start a blog, join MySpace . Just please do not show up to the classes I am in. Thank you.
